Closing the Deaf Gap in Healthcare: Giving a Voice To Deaf Patients

On Tuesday, 9/20 at 5pm ET, UMHS hosted a livestream, "Closing the Deaf Gap in Healthcare: Giving a Voice To Deaf Patients” in recognition of September as Deaf Awareness Month & International Week of Deaf People September 19-25, 2022. The livestream featured UMHS alumni Dr. Christine Marshall MD, MBA ‘15 and former Interpreter for the Hearing Impaired, Karen Matthews, both of whom are CODAs. The panelists share their experiences to give insightful advice to future doctors and those in the healthcare field to ensure the deaf and the hearing impaired are provided with the best and smoothest experiences possible. They offer communication tips, as well as share resources to help medical practitioners become more familiar with deaf healthcare.
